Once In A Blue Moon Indigo Sensuous Love Stories Dorianne Cole 9781585710706 Books

I read the lovestory "Once in a Blue Moon" and really enjoyed it. I loved the honesty of the portrayal of approaching someone of a different race, not knowing their openness to the idea, being in a work situation and the dangers fraught with that, but feeling a desire that just won't go away. All that was so sweet and tender, it drew me in. Every shy person could feel this.

Ian is such a sexy computer 'geek' (loved the ponytail!!!). He is presented as a former playboy who has realized after a very painful crash (the loss of his best friend), that he needed more in his life. He wasn't perfect, but was very honest and vulnerable when he really let his truth out... FULLY committed.

Denise, to me, didn't ring as true. She was supposed to be almost 30, but the way she acted and thought, she should've been perhaps 20-25...but maybe that was because her family sheltered and cloistered her so much. And I know there are some black folks with extreme snootiness about interacting with white folks...but the way the plot line read, it seemed more dated that reality. Everywhere I go, I see plenty of interracial couples (mostly WWBM), so it seems strange to me that families are shown as casting people out because of it.

As an aside... interesting that with all this BWWM fiction (which I do happen to enjoy), I haven't seen the WWBM flip version? Yet I see it ALL THE TIME in real life. I wonder if the plethora of BWWM fiction is a manifestation of a lot of SISTAS that are tired of being left behind and are looking to "jump the fence" (a la Once in a Blue Moon") and get their own thing going on. Just a thought...SISTAS out there (of which I am one). :-)

In the end, of course, Ian and Denise come together, once she FINALLY realizes it's HER life, SHE has to live it, and makes the mature decision to do so. I could finally stop saying "Oh get real!" and enjoy the end...although I wished it could've included a little more of the scene when Ian came to the church for the first time... and an epilogue would've been nice (a year or so later, one baby crawling around and another bun in the oven...as was BOTH their desire). Oh well... my imagination can supply that!

BTW.. the cover models for this book didn't match the characters at all...can't they get people that somewhat resemble the characters in the stories of all these novels. Happens most of the time... just a thought!

Once In A Blue Moon Indigo Sensuous Love Stories Dorianne Cole 9781585710706 Books Reviews

I am an interracial relationship(BWWM) book guru. You name I have read. This is one of the best. Oh my God had me from Day1. Its so good I am not going to realive the story for you, I dont' want to waste it.
Wow. This was an awesome book. I loved it. Between laughing so hard I cried and out right crying near the end, I have gone through every box of Kleenex in the house. This book is a keeper. And I look forward to reading more books by Dorianne Cole
I liked the story of Denise and Ian ***BUT*** the story started off way to slow. You got a lot of background about the computer world (which was ok for me because I work in IT) but the relationship between the two doesn't really start until halfway into the book.
All I got from this book was a whiny black woman to unsure of her feelings to face up to her family because she has feelings for a white man. Denise let her family dictate how she should feel WAY TO MUCH. She cried a lot and couldn't seem to focus on her relationship with Ian like a mature adult. Of the two characters you will definitely like Ian and his family more.
I am glad I bought the book but if I had it to do over? I would definitely buy used and cheap!
This was one of the first IR books that I read. I was sorry to see that this was the only book this author has ever written, The characters seemed to really come off the pages. I wondered then and now if this was more autobiographical than a fiction novel. The characters seem so real, the settings as well as all of the emotions. I think anyone looking for a REAL IR romance will enjoy this book.
I read lots of interracial romance novels and it seems like most characters are ready to jump in the sack by page 5!! This is a 496 page novel and these characters did not make love until after page 200! I felt like I really understood how they slowly fell in love with each other through the detailed conversations that the characters had throughout the build up of their relationship. I understood that their attraction was not just a physical one but that Ian was TRULY attracted to Denise because of her intelligence and her personality. I could sense how powerful their love for each other had become by the end of the book. I came to love this book so much that I went back and read several of my favorite passages over and over just to experience it again! The only thing that distracted me about this book a little was the fact that there were lots of excess conversations between other characters in the book and Denise that I felt could have been eliminated. However, I think I was only bothered by that because I was always in such a hurry to get to the scenes between Ian and Denise because I loved their chemistry so much! Overall, I loved this book! Its a Great read and very well written.
