I've read almost all of Rowan Coleman's other books, and they were excellent even though they also included more serious emotion. I usually prefer light-hearted books or suspense, but Rowan is an excellent writer and can balance emotion and details well.

Dearest Rose Rowan Coleman 8601405599773 Books Reviews

This is one of those rare books that you find very difficult to put down and has characters that stay with you long after you have finished it. Rowan is a master (or rather mistress) of holding back just enough information from the reader to keep a grip on your interest right to the very end.

The book covers a very difficult subject matter of domestic abuse, but it has handled well - sensitive, but with a positive message which makes is a joyful read rather than a depressing one. It also allows the reader to begin to appreciate the mentality of abuse victims and why they might stay with their attackers - a difficult thing for most people to understand.

Now I don't want to say too much to my fellow readers without giving the plot away - this is a surprising book, with much to it, - so all I can say is read it - you won't be disappointed.
Rose Pritchard is looking for a second chance and to escape from a deeply unhappy marriage. A few years ago a chance encounter with a kind stranger had given Rose hope and only now after all this time had Rose found the courage to make a move and take the huge step of breaking free from her life.

The stranger a man called Frasier McCleod had given Rose nothing more than a picture postcard with a small village in Cumbria called Millthwaite on it, this is Roses only clue to finding the kind stranger. So along with her seven year old daughter Maddie, she arrives at a B&B in the village, putting all hope on a letter and kind words from a stranger for a chance of happiness.

Is Rose just chasing a dream?

Dearest Rose is a truly, touching and remarkable story. I really like it when you are reading a book and the story plays out in your minds-eye like you are watching a film and that is what is one of the things that is just great about this story. The story will draw you in from the very beginning and as the story reveals more about the leading character Rose, you just cannot put the book down. The storyline is very well written and the subject covered in this book is handled very sensitively and true to life. It is great to start of the New Year with such a brilliant book and I will look forward to reading more books by Rowan Coleman.
This is a really captivating story that, when finished, leaves with you with a sweet warm feeling - even though it begins with Rose doing something rather hasty that she quickly starts to question. I love this way of starting a new book as it instantly grabs your attention by intriguing you about the wheres and whys of what Rose has done. What was so terrible to make her uproot her daughter, Maddie, and drive off in the middle of the night? And all Rose has is a handwritten note from someone she spent less than an hour with seven years ago. This teasing style carries on throughout the book, with Coleman slipping out little details here and there to ensure you keep you turning the pages and devour the story.

Rose comes across as a weak person but really she's brave and very strong. As she tries to figure out her new life, she meets some interesting characters, some of which she wishes she didn't have to see! Maddie is a fab character and she gives the story a bit of sparkle, she's a little odd but she's ok with that. Coleman's portrayal of her is spot on, she makes Maddie seem grown up but still very child like and innocent. The story is beautifully written; it's emotional, exciting and charmingly romantic. And it's very easy to see how the book won Best Romantic Read at the recent Festival of Romance awards.

I found the characters in this book wonderfully complex and having reconciled with my father recently - it hit a very personal and tender note as well. The story really does convey you to the Lake District though I also think the book could have benefitted a little more from more scenic descriptions, especially with regard to the village but the setting was beautifully chosen. I think this is one of the most enjoyable books I have read for a long time; the characters really do become very real and you do find yourself immersed in the story, I really recommend this book very highly
After reading The Memory Book, I found this all a bit boring.
Apparently Dearest Rose is the book name in England and The Runaway Wife in the U.S. So far her best of
the ones I have read.
I've read almost all of Rowan Coleman's other books, and they were excellent even though they also included more serious emotion. I usually prefer light-hearted books or suspense, but Rowan is an excellent writer and can balance emotion and details well.
